New Events Added - Mazza Museum, Mardi Gras, Queen Sancha Ball

We have recently confirmed several additions to our calendar for this winter. First is on Sunday January 6th at the University of Findlay's Mazza Museum. We'll be there as part of their Funday Sunday family event. This weekend is circus-themed, so we'll have plenty of fun designs that will make you feel like you're at the big top. The event itself, as well as our facepainting, will be FREE for the public.

On February 1st, we kick off a weekend of Mardi Gras events. First up is the Queen Sancha Ball in Toledo. This event, sponsored by the Order of Odelots, is a fundraiser for the King Wamba Parade, which takes place during the annual Old West End Festival. This year's ball will take place at the Secor Building in downtown Toledo. We'll be there painting masks on partygoers that don't care to wear a traditional mask.

On Saturday February 2nd, we'll be part of the Mardi Gras at the Manor House sponsored by the Toledo Metroparks. This event will take place at the Wildwood Metropark's Manor House, and includes New Orleans-style cuisine, live music and entertainment. Once again, we'll be there painting on masks for those that don't want the hassle of a regular mask.

Event Reports for Masquerage, Eerie St. Market, and Monster's Ball

Thanks to everyone that came out and supported us during the last few weekends. Masquerage in Dayton was a huge success! We had appointments from 11am-7pm, followed by the event itself from 8pm-1am. It was a busy day, but we are pleased to announce that we were able to raise $600 for the AIDS Resource Center of Ohio! We couldn't have done it with out your support. Hopefully we'll see you next year! In the meantime, check out www.masquerage.org for event photos from the Dayton Daily News, many of which feature our work!

Halloween events at Eerie St. Market in Toledo and at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, MI were also a great time. At Eerie Street Market, as well as providing face and body art for party guests, we also painted up some "ghouls" for the haunted tours of the market. We were a big hit at The Intersection's Monster's Ball, as well, painting up lots of costumed characters, in addition to 7 or 8 go-go dancers that were performing at both The Intersection and The Bob nightclub down the street.

You can check out photos from all of these events in our updated photo gallery, or even more so at the Air-O-Dynamic Design and Production MySpace page at www.myspace.com/airodynamicdesign!

Dayton Daily News Article, Photo Gallery & Video

In preparation for Masquerage this weekend, the Dayton Daily News published a couple of articles pertaining to the event, and also to the services that we'll be offering throughout the day.

I went down to the AIDS Resource Center of Ohio's Dayton offices last week to demonstrate our face painting for the event board of directors, as well as the Dayton Daily News.  As, I mentioned the articles were published today and are available online here and here. In addition they posted a large photo gallery and video detailing the demos that I painted while I was down there.

And just as a reminder, even though our Therapy Cafe appointments are filled, we do still have early afternoon appointments available at the Holiday Inn near the Dayton Mall to get your mask painted on (just like you see in the video) before the event.  Contact us now before those appointments are gone as well!

New Appointment Times Added for Masquerage!

Due to the overwhelming response to our services for Masquerage on Oct. 20th in Dayton, we have added appointment times! Currently all of our afternoon/evening appointments at Therapy Cafe are filled. However, we would like to thank the Holiday Inn-Dayton Mall for allowing us to add appointments from 9am-1pm at their location!

And no need to worry, the makeup that we use is incredibly long lasting, so you'll still look great for the event! We do a lot of summer arts festivals, and routinely are in our makeup from 7 or 8am until going to bed at midnight or later. So long as you aren't a really heavy sweater, there should be no problem with it lasting all day.

We're also huge proponents of showing off your makeup all over town during the day! I personally love to wear mine to slightly inappropriate places, and have been known to go out with family and friends for dinner and drinks as all sorts of zombies, monsters and creatures year round. You might get a couple of funny looks, but it's for a great cause! (And besides being fun, it's almost Halloween anyways...)

Just as a reminder, to schedule an appointment either send us an e-mail at kelly@airodynamic.net or give us a call at 407-616-0567. Prices will be in the $15-$35 range, depending on the design, with 50% of proceeds going directly to the AIDS Resource Center of Ohio. If you don't have your Masquerage tickets yet, you can get them by going to www.masquerage.org.

See you there!

Toledo Blade Society Page

We had a brief mention on the Toledo Blade Society Page today for being part of the SRO/Masquerage event on Saturday.  Thanks to everyone that came out and had their faces done.  We hope you had a great time, and don't forget to come see us on Oct. 21st at the Dayton Masquerage!

From The Toledo Blade:  Article published September 10, 2007  (I did edit out the portions of the article that didn't pertain to the Maquerage Event)

***
Summertime Send-Off
Schools are back in session and fund-raisers are kicking into full gear, but, ah, the memories. Toledo has so many outdoor activities to offer: a day at our renowned zoo and an evening concert at its amphitheater, a walk in a Metropark, a cruise down the Maumee, or a visit to a festival on its banks, a Hens game, golf at one of our several top-rated courses, tennis, dining al fresco at a local restaurant, a stroll though the Toledo Botanical Garden, art shows, a twirl on the dance floor under a star-kissed night at Centennial Terrace, and so much more....

SATURDAY night was also when the Supporters Reaching Out — SRO — Masquerade, presented by the AIDS Resource Center Ohio took place in the Secor Building in downtown Toledo.

The event, which is always the second Saturday in September, helps sustain HIV-AIDS prevention and education programs, testing and counseling, support services, and linkage to care in northwest Ohio, said William Hardy, executive director of the center based in Dayton.

SRO knows how to party for a cause. While the building might have been old, the spirit that night was full of energy.

Guests "sans mask" could step right up to the face painting booth. There Kelly Heuss created some exotic disguises with her airbrush techniques. It was much better than wearing a cumbersome mask. One of the first to get painted was Louis Escobar, board member.

At the entrance to fun were Michelle and Steve Atkinson, who were offering complimentary mini Evolution Martinis as Mike Hauser took tickets.

Inside, music pulsated. Food was artfully displayed, and tables and chairs were scatted in nightclub fashion. Pat Lewandowski sang a few tunes, a DJ played for awhile, and then the Athens Wheeler band took to the stage. Twila Starr made a special appearance too. Emcee Alexis Means of WTVG-TV, Channel 13, kept the evening rolling. Mayor Carty Finkbeiner stopped by to give an emotional speech about the need to support AIDS awareness and education in the community. Assisting in the background for the 18th SRO event were event chairmen David Wishart and Chris Clymer, who estimate a net of about $22,000 for support services in the Toledo area. That's thanks to the sponsors, volunteers, and some 350 guests.

Dale Ocheske of ProMedica enjoyed the Red Ribbon Room for sponsors, where divine delicacies were served. Serving as hostess was Shenikwa Stratford of WNWO-TV, Channel 24. Also in the VIP area were Matt and Jaimie Nachtrab, Judy Stone and Skip Gaynor, Randy and Jana Lake, and Michael Drzewiecky. Gadding about were Ben Konop, Patti Robb and David Arnold, Michael Ashford, and board members Debbie Dryer McClure and Scott Herr. Bev Nathan, the first executive director of David's House of Compassion, which became part of AIDS Resource Center Ohio in May of 2006, was also there, as were Jamie Thompson, J.R. Sobota, Elizabeth Bess, Dan Garcia, Tammy Warren, Mary and Bill Martin, Mario Campos, Emily Vargas, A.J. Ramos, and Elaine Schlagheck.

After the event several folks moseyed on over to Diva for an afterparty...

THERE are still some warm days ahead to take advantage of all the outdoor activities, so hurry up before the temperatures fall to freezing.

Kind Comments from AOD Partners and Customers

We just wanted to share a bunch of comments re: our work as seen around MySpace, the web, and that we've gotten through e-mail in the last week or so. It's always great to hear that people appreciate what we're doing, so to everyone that have sent messages and comments....THANK YOU!

Face Painting

"I work in the children's ministry at CedarCreek Church in Perrysburg, OH.  A few weeks ago when you painted faces at the festival at Levis Commons, we had many children arrive at our Saturday night services with your beautiful work on their faces!  I have never seen such magnificent face painting!"  - Lauren

"THE BEST face painter I have ever seen" - Niki

"Thanks again for all of your hard work at our Art Fair over the weekend – you were such a hit!" - Casey Pogan, Marketing Director, Levis Commons

Glass City Rollers Logo:

"And the Oscar goes to (drum roll please)..........

#3 - Kelly Heuss "Silhoutte" roller girl.

Congratulations Kelly!!

As you can see from the poll, it was very close. The jurors had many
favorites. They took into account, the poll numbers, usability and
personal choice. Each jury vote was counted equally as a poll vote, so
your vote had the same value.

Kelly's image was chosen for a few reasons, but primarily because:

- If you look at artists alone, all of Kelly's entries were very well
received. "Silhoutte" was one of her top vote getters. However, I
think we would also use her other entries.

- The juror's liked it for it's simplicity and that it is equality
readable, both large and very small. This helps when we use the logo
on letterheads, helmet stickers or t-shirts." - Glass City Rollers

"I LOVE THE NEW LOGO. SASSY!" - *crystal*

"Love the logo!" - Glass City Cafe

"i am definitely digging the new logo!!! AWESOME!" - jaci

"Love, Love, Love your logo!! :) Best of luck to you gals and hope to meet you on the rink sometime soon!" - Scarlet GoDancin *NRRG*

"The logo looks amazing! Beautiful work. =)" - Janelle

AOD to be a part of Dayton Masquerage - Oct. 20th

It has been confirmed that Air-O-Dynamic Design and Production will also be a part of the annual Masquerage event in Dayton, to benefit the AIDS Resource Center of Ohio. We will be located in the Red Ribbon Lounge, offering face and body art services to VIP ticket holders.

In contrast to the Toledo event's Ventian Carnivale theme, the Dayton event will be celebrating 70's glam rock and disco! We are also in talks to set up in a local venue that afternoon to take appointments for those who would like to have their masks painted on in advance. More details on that as we get them!

Air-O-Dynamic Design and Production wins Regional Design Competition

We are proud to announce that Air-O-Dynamic's design was recently selected for the Harrison Rally Days "Rally For The Arts" festival poster! Harrison Rally Days is an annual festival held in downtown Perrysburg, Ohio. This festival, attended by over 10,000 people, features juried fine arts and crafts, food court, parade, children's activities, boat rides on the Maumee River, youth bands, and live entertainment all day.

Thanks to the Board of Directors of the Perrysburg Area Arts Council and the Perrysburg Chamber of Commerce for selecting our design!

For those of you less familiar with Perrysburg, the icon of the downtown historic district is a large statue of Commodore Oliver Hazzard Perry (who served during the War of 1812) for who the city is named. A photo of this statue was manipulated to remove his sword and military equipment, and reposition his arm to hold a paint pallete and brushes.
